Curtis started his career as an FA with Merrill Lynch in the San Francisco office in 1978. He gathered $80 million dollars in assets within 5 years and after being recognized for his performance elected to pursue a management track.
His first assignment was in Washington, D.C. as a Sales Manager for approximately 60 individuals characterized as under-performing. In three-and one-half years he was able to raise revenues and assets more than double. Many of these individuals are now top performers in the firm or in leadership positions.
Curtis served the firm as a problem solver first in Michigan and then in Tampa/St.Petersburg, Florida before becoming the National Sales Manager for the private client division. He was responsible for many successful campaigns and initiatives that contributed to the overall growth of revenues. That let to the assignment of Assistant to the Chairman and President of the firm where he supported the Chairman and interfaced with the board of directors, shaped agendas, established meetings with corporate CEOs and heads of state.
In 2003, Curtis was promoted to run the West coast region including private client, private wealth, institutional middle markets and Asia Pacific business. After retirement from Merrill, Curtis served as President and COO of EQUIS until joining Supernova as a practice leader/consultant and executive coach with emphasis on financial advisor productivity improvement solutions and team effectiveness strategies.
Curtis has a BA from San Diego State, MBA from National University and Advanced Studies from Wharton, U of Pennsylvania and Investment Banking Institute. He is a widower with two grown children and lives in the San Francisco area.
