The Supernova Five Star Model: A Solution to Risk Management Within Your Business

Supernova introduced the Five Star Model as an efficient way to organize an advisor’s team. The “Five Stars” refers to the five key areas of responsibility of your practice. The ‘Vice President’ assigned to each ‘star’ is held accountable for the performance in their respective areas and is measured by the Gameboard.

If the team consists of a solo FA and Practice Manager (aka CA/CSA) each person is responsible for multiple roles. This structure provides checks and balances that keep the team on track towards a more efficient and accelerated growth model and ensures a quality product. The five areas are:

  1. Planning – responsibilities include ensuring all clients have a plan and that plan is updated annually
  2. Planning Implementation – responsibilities include all plans are implemented
  3. Brand – responsibilities include rapid response to clients issues, creation and distribution of folders, scheduling the 12-4-2 client appointments, keeping the team on course using the Gameboard, working on compliance issues
  4. Marketing – responsibilities include keeping up the website, adding content to social media and running client events
  5. Leadership – includes reinforcing the Gameboard, conducting daily, weekly and annual meetings, overseeing the practice as a whole
